Our new committee 04/05 are

President: Henry Patton
Secretary: Nikki Connors
Treasurer: Jon Wichett
Social Sec: Oli Richards
Tackle Master: John Kitching
Web Master: Paul Fellows

Welcome to the new bods, I hope you are looking forward to taking up your
roles actively next term – we will be around to help out if you encounter
any issues.

I am sure that Paul Fellows will be making a collective fool of you soon on the website committee page with amusing photos, or you could try and send him a reasonable looking one – but I’m sure that will make it worse though!

AGM – Sweeney Todd’s

meles01.jpg
Hello Cavers,

Our Annual General Meeting is on its way! You can voice your opinion on issues outstanding, ask us where the money went and why we book huts with no heating! It has been a tradition for some time that the AGM is held at Sweeney Todd’s Pie shop on Monday week 10 of the Spring term. That is Monday 15th March, I believe we will be meeting at Pavlov’s dog opposite the chequered church in town prior to Sweeney’s. JohnK will confirm and let you know times etc.

This is the most important club event of the year, as it is where the committee members for the next 3 terms will be elected – Please can we have an amazing turnout for the club. In order to keep the people at the pie shop happy (and stop them filling our pies with horrible things) we need to let them know numbers, please email John if you would like to go.

For the committee positions no previous experience is needed. There is a brief description of the positions on the website committee page. If you are considering going for a position please let me know There will be voting, possibly heated, if positions are highly contested – however Ron makes few appearances. See you there!

PS thanks to Steve Jackson for the pic www.badgers.org.uk/badgerpages

Looks like those Donkeys will be useful after all Speleolabs!

Just thought I would let you all know the good news, we have almost secured a new storage room for our equipment on campus. Full info will be sent out soon, in addition to keys etc. Some time shortly I will be asking for a couple of volunteers to help secure the place and transport the kit from JohnK’s house via donkey. (no donkeys will be harmed in this process)

Xmas Party Extravaganza

leppy.jpg

Christmas Party! Meeting time 3pm at John’s House for reception drinks, and a full Christmas dinner will be served at approx 4:30. More info is on the ‘Diary’ page, not the ‘Trips’ page – sorry for confusion.

The theme is confirmed as ‘Landmarks and Leprechauns’ i.e. you should come dressed as either a landmark, a leprechaun or an Irish Landmark for bonus points!

We would like to thank JohnK for very kindly offering his place for the event. There will be a round up of the terms events including awards and prizes. Rumour has it that there will also be a cave ‘challenge’ in the back garden as well as other crazy antics and games. Including the new game taking the nation by storm “beer pong” (Sponsored by speleolabs) and the “Shamrock Challenge”

John lives at 77 Elgar Rd, please see map link here
Overnight accomodation will be available for whoever needs/wants to stay. Bring a sleeping bag.

Email J with any questions / problems

NEW SECRETARTY

IMG_1039.JPG

In case you weren’t able to join us last night, we took over a corner of a very nice restaurant to inflict speeches, faffing with banners/bits of paper and poor chopstick technique on the town bods of China Palace. Voting was by secret ballot, here are the results of the election for Secretary:

Henry Patton 11 votes
Oli Richards 12 votes

The committee would like to welcome Oli into his new position and congratulate you both for making this the closest election ever. The traditional incoming Vs outgoing pint downing in Bar Risa was a dead heat. Soon be time to do it all over again at Easter!

Note from webmaster: Congratulations. Have you been elected as ‘Secretarty’ or ‘Secretary’? May make all the difference to your behaviour.

NEW SECRETARY TO BE ELECTED…

At the pub this Monday we saw an amazing display of electionitis when two individuals decided they fancied being our new Secretary and spent the evening pursuading our experienced members to nominate them!

Cave bod: Henry Patton
Proposed by: James Salmons
Seconded by: Jon Kitching

Cave bod: Oli Richards
Proposed by: Paul Fellows
Seconded by: James Bouchard

How will it all work? The election for this post will be on Monday 17 November 03 and will take place at our social in town – see ‘Diary’ for Info. After our meal, the cave bods (candidates) will have the floor to tell us briefly why they should be Secretary, candidates leave the room, election will be by majority, with each caving club member having one vote – all fun lighthearted stuff. For full info regarding election to committee, please see ‘Resources’ and view The Club Constitution.

The existing committee wish you both good luck!

PUB GOLF

REMINDER: This Thursday (6th Nov) we will be meeting at the Upin Arms on London Road at Cemetry junction from 7pm to play PUB GOLF – so book your Friday morning off work or expect to miss a 9am lecture for students!

If you are not sure what PUB GOLF is – come along and find out, it’s basically a drinking competition with a twist. We will be starting at the Upin Arms and leaving for County by 7.30pm so please be prompt.

There is no need to book a place, just turn up and we will give you your score sheet, feel free to bring a friend or two. Any questions? please email our social sec JonK.
