The RUCC Social Secretariat are pleased to announce that the club will be holding the third inaugural pub golf event on Thursday the 17th November. Full details will be provided but if last year is anything to go by players will be requested to assemble in the College Arms at 8.00 p.m ready for teeing off. Second hole will no doubt be the Upin Arms at Cemetery Junction but after that your guess is as good as mine. If you are planning on being late (in which case your chances of winning are significantly handicapped) your best bet is to contact event commissioner Anne Marie.

There may be an award for silliest trousers or anyone caught in the rough. 

Just to say we are due to go Ice Skating In Bracknell this wednesday – meet a 7.00 pm in the College Arms for some sliding action.

We’re hearing rumours that next Tuesday will play host to some sort of pub-based social activity, to allow effective inter minglling of new and exisitng members. Please clear you diaries for this important event. Details will inevitably follow. Go mingle….

To round of the year yesterday we went to Cadbury’s World and spent the junkyard sale proceeds. A few photos are here. Thanks to John K for driving/organising and Charlotte for the idea.

If anyone has any particularly good photos from the past year could you please let me have them as things are about to be sorted out for next year.

On a separate note, if anyone is still around bear in mind that the rather good  WOMAD  festival is on in Reading this summer. There are plans to go on Friday 29 July (me, John/Lisa/Anna, Andy/Esther). Tickets are discounted from £30 to £11.50 with a Passport to Leisure.

IMPORTANT NEWS

You may recall that for some time we have been running a ‘Great RUCC Junkyard Sale’, and we promised you a top nite out in a top Reading nitespot on the proceeds. This sale is now officially closed.  Proceeds from the sale (made up of sales of assorted rubbish, books and quiz winnings) have way exceeded all expectations and can be inspected using the online crapometer.

As proceeds are more than we thought we have now have a budget to blow. We have taken advice from our Secretary (over a drink) and we have been persuaded (over another drink) that a trip to Cadbury’s World may be in order, followed by a trip to a top Reading nitespot as planned.

We are suggesting that THURSDAY 30TH JUNE (not Wednesday 29th June as previously advertised) may be a good day to go. You?  We need to organise transport and so on and it will therefore be first come first served. Hence please let John K or me know or tell us in the pub next Monday. As this will likely be the end event of a very lively year attendance is of course compulsory.

Also – please remember that the next and final trip in Wales, weekend after next.  Please contact Charlotte or arrive at the pub to book.

Just to let you know that there will be a contingent of cavers in the Queens Head, Christchurch Road this Friday from 8.00 pm onwards. OK, at least me, John K & Henry. We will be bidding farewell to Emily the landlady who has been supplying ideas for some of your more creative cocktails in recent months. Really hope to see you there. In other news we have won more money on the pub quiz. After curly wurlys, space raiders and comedy moustaches we are hoping to now source a supply of cheap space hoppers for the next trip. Watch this space.

We really really new some new shirts. To encourage someone arty to have a go there is now a page on the site that is there to display whatever people come up with. There’s one on there as an example, the idea is to do better.

In other news don’t forget that there’s a Yorkshire trip this bank holiday weekend (Saturday 30th April – Monday May 1st.). We are going on Saturday so we can attend the 11th Reading Beer Festival on the Friday. Your attendance is of course required for this event which is held in a very big tent in Kings Meadow. 400 different ales apparently. Oh dear.

Message from Oli – Hi Kids, Its getting close to that time!!  The RUCC boat race will be on TUESDAY 15th of Feb. I need names of ALL who want to come ASAP so that I can sort them into teams and wangle any deals in the bars that will have the pleasure of our presence! Can everyone who wants to come email me by THURSDAY 10th pleaaaase!
