Bar Casa

BarcasaA few photographs from last Thursday’s night at Bar Casa can be found here. There’s not many as for some reason I forgot I had a camera after a while. If anyone has any photos they would like to share feel free to e-mail them.

On an unrelated note Henry will be giving away free Curly Wurlys on Monday. He’ll explain why.

RUCC Social Services

Image040_1For those of us who like to revel in the heady atmosphere of a local drinking house RUCC social services are offering a small pub crawl on Thursday 27th. We are due to meet in the Upin Arms, Cemetery Junction at 7:30 – 8:00 before moving into town.  From there the evening is currently shrouded in mystery and suspense, but Oli has mentioned either Po Na Na or Walkabout as an eventual target. Bring some dancing trousers.

Apparently Tuesday 15th of February has also been earmarked for some related type event involving pubs and dribbling, so please mark your own ears accordingly and keep free.

What Do Grapes Make…?

Playyourcardsright1980Welcome back!  Happy new year…

New for this forthcoming weekend RUCC are proud to announce our new wine tasting venture, ‘Play Your Grapes Right!’

This is a game for bon viveurs with a discerning palette and is set to take the wine tasting world by storm. Can you tell a Chateau Laffitte from a Chateau Pants?

For those who never saw the classic Brucie game show (and so you can get some practice in) the idea is to sample a series of fine and less than fine wines blind and decide on ‘higher’ or ‘lower’ based on perceived price. Glamorous assistants and top prizes are promised, and it should be an evening of bacchanalian delight. Bring you own spit bucket.

Pub Quizzing

Image003 RUCC’s vain attempts at winning the pub quiz at the nob are still continuing with bitter dissapointment, though we were only 3 questions away from the money last time! Let the silly drinks continue!

This is just to remind everyone that there is a quiz in mojo’s on thursday from 7pm, if anyone cares to come and try and win some beer! I understand there will be several members of caving present so come and give it a go.

Numerous thingies:

1) There is a three legged pub crawl due next Tuesday. Details in the pub or from Oli. You do not have to bring an extra leg, one will apparently be provided. By Oli. Be afraid…
2) We need to be thinking about Christmas Party themes. Henry has suggested: Drag Queens & I can’t remember the last bit Henry? Previous themes are here. Pitcroft Avenue was mentioned….
3) Queens Head Pub Kwiz – pleased to announced that the team (this week me, Dave, Henry, Rick) came 19th from last (a.k.a. fourth). So in your face Mr Fully Fitted Kitchin! But thanks John for spending the night sorting out all the gear instead instead… Bar staff are on now alert for silly drinks now. This evening: Turbo Shandies.
4) Just to reiterate that this weekend we will again be running an experimental vodka workshop. Last year things that worked: Mars Bars, Skittles. Things that didn’t work: Dolly Mixtures, Cream Eggs. Get fermenting now and bring it with you. Use your imagination.

Sides of a Snowflake?

Just to let you know that John ‘Fully Fitted’ Kitchin & the Boy Paul are continuing in their lonely quest to win the Queens Head pub quiz. Despite their only being two of them they recently came twelth from last! On basis of last time we need help in paleontology, early American history, wine producing regions and Austalian slang. And many more… It’s Tuesday nights, Queens Head, Christchurch Road 8.30 prompt. If anyone is interested make themselves known on a Monday night.

RUCC 2nd Annual Pub Golf Event

Pubgolf

The RUCC Social Secretariat are pleased to announce that the club will be holding the second inaugural pub golf event this Thursday (14th). Players are requested to meet in the College Arms at 8.00p.m. Second hole will be the Upin Arms at Cemetery Junction but after that your guess is as good as mine. If you are planning on being late (in which case your chances of winning are significantly handicapped) your best bet is to contact event commissioner Oli. For the amateur pub golfers amongst you the art of pub golf is to make every hole the 19th. Last year we had a most refreshing evening. Oli – is there an award for silliest trousers?

Slideshow

Badger2
There is a slideshow & get together on Monday 4th October, to show people the sorts of things we get up to on weekends. Time: 8.00 pm. Place: Room 111, Palmer Building (middle of campus, big dark brick building with a clock on it). It’s a chance to meet the club, ask questions and sign up for trips. Afterwards we are heading for the College Arms pub on Wokingham Road (9.00 onwards), which is our new Monday night home.

Lesser Spotted Spot Bird

Just to let you know that The Boy Paul and John ‘Fully Fitted’ Kitchin have taken to doing the pub quiz in the Queens Head over the Summer. Tuesday 8.30 p.m prompt. And we need help. In past attempts we have asserted that clotted cream is made by Oompah Loompahs using nozzles and that Hannibal crossed the Alps on a mechanical shark called Beverley. We have yet to win.
