Hot Election Action Plus More!

Nikki It’s a news orgy!

Congratulations to the new committee. Nikki was voted in and won the president’s post by a single vote (and I checked). Charlotte and Harriet took the other two posts hence RUCC IS AN ALL FEMALE CAVING COMMITTEE! This may be a world first. In celebration I have taken the liberty of temporarily changing the design of the main page. Full profiles for the committee will be posted shortly.

2) A few photos of the AGM (or ‘testaments to togetherness’ as I prefer to term them) are available here.

3) Fantastic news from the Great RUCC Junkyard Sale! Sales are well above expectations. Check our sales and progress using our online crapometer here. Phase two starts next week. After a fierce round of bidding, our dear pound coin eventually sold for 96 pence. We will of course be selling this 96 pence again through ebay as we feel it would be an interesting experiment in the mechanics of online supply and demand.

4) There are plans afoot to attend the Irish Student Caving Seminar on 17-20th March. Contact John W if you are interested.

5) John K has today announced a ‘gear amnesty’. If you have old gear bring it on a Monday or let John know or otherwise he will find out that you have gear squirelled away and come round and beat you with sticks.

They will be held at next week’s AGM, which is due to take place on Monday 7th March at Sweeney & Todd’s Pie Shop, Castle Street, Reading. 8.00 ish, probably in Pavlov’s beforehand but no doubt an e-mail will go round. This means we will NOT BE IN THE COLLEGE ARMS NEXT MONDAY. New posts are now available.

The Great RUCC Junkyard Sale

Junkbox_1 We are thrilled to announce the Great RUCC Junkyard Sale! Yes, its spring cleaning time and we’ve taken the opportunity to use the magic of ebay to list numerous items that we think deserve new owners. The purpose of this exercise is to raise enough cash for at least half a club night out in a top Reading nitespot. You can monitor progress of the sale on this site and by looking at the online appeal crapometer. If you have any items you would like to donate please let us know. We will also be offering a selection of pre-loved caving gear once we have looked in the darker recesses of the hut. We just haven’t plucked up the courage yet.

STOP PRESS! Seven bids on the pound coin so far. In response to a request for photos we have also prepared this little insight – a day in the life of our pound coin. We’re getting quite fond of it.

RUCC Social Services

Image040_1 For those of us who like to revel in the heady atmosphere of a local drinking house RUCC social services are offering a small pub crawl on Thursday 27th. We are due to meet in the Upin Arms, Cemetery Junction at 7:30 – 8:00 before moving into town. From there the evening is currently shrouded in mystery and suspense, but Oli has mentioned either Po Na Na or Walkabout as an eventual target. Bring some dancing trousers.

Apparently Tuesday 15th of February has also been earmarked for some related type event involving pubs and dribbling, so please mark your own ears accordingly and keep free.

This weekend we:

– Learned how to play the digeridoo on a rainy Welsh hillside
– Were introduced to the ancient Welsh craft of saucepan divining
– Became more knowledgeable in the ways of the grape

And did some caving. Photographic evidence can be found here
